Our teachers come from all over the English-speaking world and are experienced in teaching business English. This means that what is learned in the classroom is directly applicable to working life.
LEVELS AND STRUCTURE
All new students take a test so that we can decide which of our 6 levels would be most appropriate for them. Each level is based on the CEFR (Common European Framework) and corresponds to levels of well-known qualifications such as TOEFL and TOEIC – see the image for more details.
The standard course format for in-company classes is two 90-minute sessions per week, in addition to approximately 2 hours of online work that the students can do at home. In this format, students can complete a full level in just 4 months. Of course, we offer flexibility to our clients in terms of course length and delivery, and we will always try to find the best option for each specific company.
At the end of each four-month period, students sit an exam testing the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) to assess if they are ready to advance to the next level.
At United English, we operate a system called Blended Learning. This system is similar to that used in many universities and colleges around the world. In the Blended Learning system, part of the course is done in class, and the other part of the course is done online through an e-learning platform. All students of United English have access to our exclusive e-learning platform. This ensures that, wherever you are, you have access to the materials you need to improve your language skills and to prepare for your next class.
Each unit that students see in class has a corresponding unit online. The idea is that students use the online part of the course to prepare themselves for the face-to-face classes. Our online component perfectly complements the material that we work with in-class, so students can practice the vocabulary before class, enabling them to participate much more actively in the face-to-face classes. Doing this also allows us to focus on abilities like speaking and writing in the face-to-face classes, helping our students achieve fluency even faster.
At United English, we know how important it is for companies to have access to accurate information regarding students’ progress in order for them to know that their investment has been wisely made. For this reason, we provide monthly reports to all our key clients, outlining each student’s attendance, class participation and online work for that month.
In addition, at the end of each level we compile an Executive Summary outlining each student’s performance in the final exam, broken up by skill, and including their online work. These Executive Summaries are sent to the company representative as soon as the exams are corrected.
In addition to our regular Blended Learning courses, we offer specialised English courses with specific goals. One of these courses is our highly successful business writing course.
This course is designed to improve email writing skills and looks at common issues that students face when writing business emails.
Do you dread having to give presentations in English? We also have a presentation skills course that can help you. In this course we look at the different components of a successful presentation, such as as body language, dealing with the question and answer session, and key phrases for presenting information.
