A brief introduction to our teacher, Zoe Schattenburg. She explains a little about herself and what she likes about teaching English.
Where are you from?
I'm from Boston, Massachusetts.
How long have you been in Mexico?
I’ve been in Mexico since July 2018, but I visited Mexico several times in 2016 and 2017 when I was finishing my University studies.
How long have you been teaching English?
I’ve been teaching English for about one year total. When I was studying in Argentina and Spain, I had two English teaching internships.
How long have you been with UE?
I've been with UE since July 2018.
Have you taught anywhere else?
I taught English at universities in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Burgos, Spain.
What do you like about teaching at United English?
I love getting to meet so many interesting and intelligent people with diverse backgrounds. United English is a very organized and well run school, so that makes coming to work that much easier. I like having the opportunity to work one-on-one with students early in the morning or late at night, where we can really focus together on the individual student’s needs. As one of the younger teachers at the school, I really appreciate when more experienced teachers share different tricks about how to run a certain activity or manage difficult situations in class. It has helped me grow a lot as a teacher since I started working here.
What advice can you offer to language learners?
The best advice I have for language learners is to expose yourself to the language in some way every single day. Learning a language doesn’t have to be boring! We are so lucky to live in a time where there are so many resources for learning on our computers and cell phones. Explore applications, computer programs, English music, English speaking YouTube channels, etc. Find an activity that feels fun for you and do it as much as you can!
