Ten years ago everybody used PCs, and social media consisted of sending an email to friends.
Now, websites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, and the rest have transcended early expectations of running your life, to become integral to you, your image, your mark and perhaps, your business.
But is it worthwhile?
The big question now is whether 3,000 likes on Facebook really translates into sales. Or whether you having 5,000 followers on Twitter is marketing.
The true goal, it seems, is to focus on building real relationships and interactions. Giving something of value to people in your network, and earning the privilege of "being their friend".
